Delrin Shift Rod Guide Bushing for Type 2 1966-1973

This Delrin shift rod guide bushing replaces the stock shift rod bushing, which is known to be difficult to install, wear prematurely, and provide a loose, imprecise shifter feel.

Engineered for improved durability, this replacement bushing delivers smoother, more precise shifting with a solid, positive feel.

EMPI 12-Volt Ignition Coil, 3.4 Ohms, Epoxy Filled

Ignition coil for vehicles running 12-volt electrical systems. The ignition coil creates high voltage required by the distributor, which delivers energy to the spark plugs to ignite the air/fuel mixture. The ignition coil is a standard service item and should be replaced if your vehicle is running poorly or experiencing a weak spark.

The coil is rated at 16,000 volts and features the standard 3.4-ohm resistance. The epoxy-filled design allows the coil to be mounted inverted without leaking. Additional power terminals allow the coil to power other electrical accessories. The included 14-gauge mounting bracket is stronger than standard brackets and features a gold zinc rust-preventative coating.

The coil measures 55mm in diameter and features a unique blue body with a brown cap. The bracket retains OE bolt-hole spacing for easy installation.

Replaces Bosch 00-012 and EMPI 00-9409-B

Dual 40K Manifold Kit for Single Port Engines

These cast aluminum intake manifolds allow the installation of dual EMPI 40K or Kadron style carburetors on single-port cylinder heads.

EMPI engineers utilized SolidWorks CAD with 3D scanning and 3D printing to design and prototype these manifolds. Extensive on-engine testing ensured a precise fit and optimal airflow. These manifolds provide the increased performance benefits of dual carburetors on single-port-equipped engines.

The manifolds are made from A356 cast aluminum rather than the welded steel manifolds currently available. The cast aluminum construction provides an OE appearance while also reducing weight.

EMPI Dual 40K manifolds are offset, meaning each manifold mirrors the other, eliminating the need for dedicated left and right side manifolds for trouble-free installation.

This kit includes mounting hardware, gaskets, standard clamps, and a Buna-N oil/fuel resistant hose.

EMPI X Foose Design Rear Wing Type 1

EMPI is proud to collaborate with legendary automotive designer Chip Foose on this all-new EMPI Exclusive rear wing. Precision-engineered and manufactured, this modern reimagining of the No Longer Available “Herrod Helper” wing adds real aero functionality and style to any Type 1.

The Foose wing and support elements are laser-cut and precision bent from 14-gauge T-6061 aluminum to be lightweight and rigid. Chip designed the wing to provide high speed stability and enhanced rear end downforce at speed. The Gurney flap at the back of the wing adds additional downforce while the TIG welded end plates help direct the air over the wing element. These features help make the wing more efficient than older designs.

The TIG welded aluminum wing stand-offs have been purposefully designed to mount the leading wing edge away from the body to allow cooling air to reach the engine unimpeded. The wing mounts low enough to not interfere with rear visibility, and the wing is mounted high enough to open the rear decklid without interference.

The mild steel mounting brackets are 16-gauge and powder coated black. These brackets sandwich the engine cooling vents for a secure bolt on installation to any Type 1 bug. No cutting or drilling is required for the installation of the EMPI X Foose Design wing, so installation is reversible at any time.

Stainless steel mounting hardware is used throughout the kit for a clean installation.

Includes a pre-applied FOOSE sticker on the side panel of the wing (removable).

Super Shroud Late 36 HP Style, Each

EMPI Engineers have done it again! Extensive development, CAD modeling, 3D scanning, and real-world flow testing have yielded a proprietary EMPI fan shroud that cools more effectively, directs air more efficiently, and fits better than ever before.

These later style Doghouse Super Shrouds deliver more air volume than existing OEM or aftermarket shrouds for increased cooling capacity while retaining the classic 36hp Style fan shroud shape. Internal fin shapes and placements were optimized using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and empirical flow bench testing. 3D scans of multiple engine cases and cylinder tins were used to ensure the best fitment possible. Plus, the Super Shroud can accommodate your choice of stock (28-30mm) or thicker (37mm) fans. This is beneficial since the larger fan produces significantly more air than the thinner ones.

The EMPI Super Shroud features multiple elements that have been completely redesigned for a cleaner, OE Style look while delivering improved engine performance and longevity when compared to OEM and existing aftermarket shrouds.


Extensive testing confirms that the EMPI Super Shroud delivers more air to all the critical locations:

38% more cooling air flow (cubic feet per minute) to the cylinders and heads when upgrading from the OEM early style non-doghouse fan shroud (w/37mm fan)

7% more total air flow to the cylinders/heads than the OEM doghouse shroud (w/37mm fan)

The bumper overrider holes are not drilled, delivering a sleek, uncluttered appearance while saving time and cost during installation.

Many original bumpers require extensive straightening and repair before re-chroming—often at a cost far exceeding these new components—yet still fail to achieve perfect results. Engine Tin, Cylinder Cooling – VW Bus Type 2 (1972-1979) 2.0L Type 4, Each

EMPI engineers have designed all new engine tin for your Type 4 engine that fits like new while protecting cylinder head cooling fins from debris build keeping your engine at optimal operating temperature. These tins have been NLA for many years; so no more junkyard scavenging for used tins to refurb. The EMPI team used 3D scanning to create SolidWorks CAD renderings and 3D printed prototypes which were extensively test fitted to verify accurate fitment.

The completely new cylinder tins are stamped in 1mm thick sheet steel and finished in semi-gloss black paint with M6 X 1.0 welded nuts installed for secure mounting.

These cylinder tins are also compatible with EMPI Super Vee performance cylinder heads as installed on the EMPI 914 and have additional OE apertures for spark plugs and cylinder head temperature sensors. Caps are included for a clean, flush fit free of gaps.

Super Shroud, Early Style 
Non-Doghouse

EMPI Engineers have done it again! Extensive development, CAD modeling, 3D scanning, and exhaustive real-world flow testing have yielded a proprietary EMPI fan shroud that cools more effectively, directs air more efficiently, and fits better than ever before.

These early style Super Shrouds deliver more air volume for increased cooling capacity. Internal fin shapes and placements were optimized using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and empirical flow bench testing. 3D scans of multiple engine cases and tins were used to ensure the best fitment possible. Plus, the Super Shroud can accommodate your choice of stock (28-30mm) or thicker (37mm) fans.

The EMPI Super Shroud features multiple elements that have been completely redesigned for a cleaner, OE Style look while delivering improved engine performance and longevity when compared to OEM shrouds including:

Added Velocity Stack Inlet, mimicking the Porsche 356 OEM shroud, to increase airflow into the shroud and deliver more cooling efficiency.

Enhanced air balance across the engine, OE-style and existing aftermarket shrouds are typically imbalanced, favoring the passenger side (1 & 2 cylinders) versus the driver side (3 & 4 cylinders). This imbalance can lead to inconsistent heating between the sides of the motor. The EMPI Super Shroud corrects the imbalance while still delivering increased airflow across both sides of the engine.

Extended cooling fin tips to simulate the OEM thermostat vanes; while many OEM thermostats have been deleted or no longer function properly, EMPI engineers extended these tips to replicate thermostat functionality in the “on” position.

Improved fan shroud fitment on OEM and bubbletop engine cases for easier installation and a better seal to the engine tin when compared to previous EMPI shrouds.

Horizontal alignment of the alternator bolt holes and removal of unnecessary holes makes for a better-looking shroud that contains the airflow more completely.

Extensive testing confirms that the EMPI Super Shroud delivers:

7% more total air flow than previous EMPI non-doghouse shrouds (w/either fan)

14% more cooling air CFM (cubic feet per minute) output than OE Style Shroud (w/30mm fan)

37% more cooling air CFM output than OE Style Shroud (w/37mm fan)

42% more engine cooling capacity when using a remote oil cooler and 37mm fan versus OE-style oil cooler in an OE-style shroud

Off Road Ball Joint Raised Adjustable Beam in a Box with Thing Spindles

Another EMPI Exclusive, the latest addition to the Beam In A Box family is taller, tougher, and more than ready for your next off-road adventure. Assembled in Anaheim, CA, this heavy-duty Type 1 Ball Joint front end will accept your choice of shocks and is just four bolts away from getting your Baja, Buggy, or Class 11 project out of the garage and into the wild. Extensive EMPI testing on the Mojave Trail confirms this beam and its carefully selected components will handle all the abuse you can throw at them.

This 3” raised spindle beam features all of the good stuff, already assembled. Starting with our Off-Road Bare Beam with Adjusters and Shock Plates. This all-new beam is upgraded in-house with welded-in adjusters that accommodate a stock ride height level with up to 4 additional inches of adjustment for the perfect stance. Upper shock mount towers have been reinforced with welded-in plates for demanding off-road conditions and top shock mounts have been repositioned for additional shock fitment options. New standard torsion leaves, OEM-style outer needle bearings, and long-lasting Micarta Inner Bushings complete the beam.

On top of all that goodness we install EMPI’s all-new forged Thing spindles for another 3” of beam height and additional articulation. 3D scanning and CAD engineering ensure exact dimensions for a direct replacement of original Type 181 spindles used on the 1973-1974 Thing. Constructed of Hot Forged 5140 medium carbon steel these spindles are SCORE approved for Class 11 competition.

To make this complete beam install faster and more efficient, the raised beam is fitted with EMPI forged trailing arms matched with heavy-duty ball joints. EMPI has redesigned this critical piece of
engine tin using SolidWorks CAD with a wider lip creating an improved seal. Frequently overlooked and omitted during engine builds; the “Hoover Bit” must be bolted directly to the
rear of doghouse oil cooler. A missing “Hoover Bit” results in a less effective cooling system, leading to poor performance. 

Please note that modifications may be required when installing aftermarket engine tin.

EMPI’s Exclusive Treuhaft Porsche 356 Spindle assembly is produced with 100% new forgings based on CAD modeling from original Porsche samples. Long since discontinued by Porsche these pre-loaded spindle and support bow assemblies are precision assembled on our own CNC jigs to exacting tolerances. They will bring the suspension and steering feel of any 356 back to like new condition. Exclusive to EMPI dealers worldwide.

Constructed of Stainless Steel with 1 5/8” tubing and featuring a true 4 into 1 merged collector for maximum exhaust flow. This system is TIG welded for long lasting strength and good looks. This system includes a S/S V-band Muffler. Gaskets and hardware are in the box for an easy installation. This is a competition system and cannot be used with heater boxes.

EMPI GTV-2 L5 CNC Ported 40 x 35.5 Valves, 90.5 / 92mm Bore, Pair

New CNC port designs now available from EMPI. These new port designs include most of what DRD Racing Heads previously offered. These heads feature beefed-up Intake & Exhaust Ports for massive porting without the need for welding. Special aluminum alloy for atrength and durability...Plus they are repairable. Added material surrounding the combustion chamber for deep fly cutting. Exhaust air passages are clear for proper cooling. Comes with 12mm, 3/4" reach plug holes. These heads also feature competition dual valve springs, chromoly retainers, hardened keepers, bronze valve guides, stainless steel valves & custom fit gaskets included with each pair. Hi-Performance 3-angle valve job with stainless steel valves. Lash Caps P/N 4006 are required in all cylinder head applications that have stainless steel valves.
